Hildegard Werth

Hildegard Werth (born March 10, 1950 in Saarbrücken ) is a German television journalist and author . She became known as a science reporter for the ZDF heute journal .

Career

Werth studied sociology , social psychology , philosophy of science and German in Saarbrücken and Mannheim . She received a grant from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation .

In addition to her studies, she reported from 1970 to 1974 as a radio reporter for Saarländischer Rundfunk on current events (magazines Im Dreieck , Im Industrie-Dreieck ).

After graduating from the University of Mannheim , 1975, she worked as a research assistant at the isoplan Institute for Economic Research and Social Planning, Saarbrücken , where she prepared reports for public institutions (including the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation , Federal Employment Agency , Saarbrücken City Association ).

1979–1981 Werth completed an editorial traineeship at the Second German Television in Mainz, Wiesbaden and Berlin.

From 1980 on she worked in the ZDF main editorial office for the latest news as an editor and reporter, mainly in the editorial department of heute-journal . In 1985 she moved to the ZDF editorial team for natural science and technology in Munich, where she was responsible as editor and presenter for the series From Research and Technology and for special programs . a. about the D-1 space mission in 1985, the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986 and the flight of the Giotto spacecraft to Halley's comet. She was part of the founding team of the Knoff Hoff Show and in the following years specialized as a science journalist on the topics of space travel and astronomy.

In 1988 Werth returned to Mainz as a reporter and final editor for ZDF heute journal.

From 1995 to 2015 she worked there mainly as a science reporter. She reported from numerous European countries, the USSR and Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, USA, Mexico, Chile, French Guiana, Bermuda, Kenya, Sudan, China, Korea, Australia and the Antarctic.

From 1999–2003 she was in charge of the ZDF special broadcasts on the German Future Prize - Federal President's Prize for Technology and Innovation, and in 1999 the Future Week and Future Night on ZDF under the title Countdown 20XX .

She is the author of numerous documentaries and reports on ZDF , ZDFinfo , 3sat and PHOENIX and from 2008 to 2011 she was the author, director and presenter of the magazine wissensWert (h) on ZDFinfo.

Hildegard Werth has been a freelance journalist since August 2015.

Werth is married for the second time and has one daughter.

At birth, Werth received Saarland citizenship. When the Saarland was reintegrated into the Federal Republic of Germany in 1957, she became a German citizen.
