The sea buckthorns ( Hippophae ) are a genus of plants in the family of the olive family (Elaeagnaceae).
features
The Hippophae species grow as thorny, deciduous shrubs or trees . The alternate, opposite or whorled leaves are simple and at least short stalked. The leaf margins are smooth.
The Hippophae species are dioecious separate sexes ( diocesan ). The male flowers are grouped in small, catkin-like inflorescences before the leaf shoots . The male flowers contain two membranous bracts , a small disc and four free stamens. The female flowers are grouped in small, racemose inflorescences. Your bracts are fused Roehrig.
Yellow to orange-red, spherical to cylindrical drupes are formed.

The genus Hippophae comprises seven species (Bartish et al. In Syst. Bot. 27: 41-54, 2002). All seven species occur in China, four of which are endemic there :
- Sea buckthorn ( Hippophae rhamnoides L. ): It is by far the best-known species of the genus, the range of which extends from large parts of Europe to Asia ( China ).
- Hippophae goniocarpa Y.S. Lian et al. ex Swenson & Bartish : The home is the Chinese provinces of Qinghai and Sichuan at altitudes between 2500 and 3500 meters.
- Hippophae gyantsensis (Rousi) YSLian : It is endemic to the Xizang province at altitudes between 3500 and 4000 (up to 5000) meters .
- Hippophae litangensis Y.S.Lian & XueL.Chen ex Swenson & Bartish : It is endemic to the Litang area in Sichuan at altitudes of about 3700 m.
- Hippophae neurocarpa S.W.Liu & TNHe : The home is the Chinese provinces: Qinghai, Sichuan, Xizang at altitudes between 3400 and 4400 meters.
- Hippophae salicifolia D.Don : The homeland is Bhutan , northern India , Nepal and southern Xizang at altitudes between 2800 and 3500 meters in the Himalayas .
- Hippophae tibetana Schlechtendal : The homeland is Bhutan, northern India, Nepal and the Chinese provinces: Gansu, Qinghai, Xizang at altitudes between 3600 and 4700 meters in the Himalayas.
