Normal way From Rein via Hirberalm and south flank

The Hirbernock ( 3010  m slm , Italian Cima di Moia ) is the third highest mountain in the Durreck group , a South Tyrolean mountain range that separates the Ahrntal in the north from the Reintal in the south. It is located in the main ridge of the group, which runs from northeast to southwest, about two kilometers northeast of the Durreck ( 3135  m slm ), the main summit of the group. Part of the ridge between Hirbernock and Durreck is called the Gamskarschneide , from which several ridge elevations rise up that just miss the 3000 meter mark. In the north-western continuation of the main ridge, the rather striking Katzenkofel ( 2912  m slm ) rises just under 1.5 kilometers away . The entire area is protected in the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park .

The first documented ascent of the Hirbernock took place in 1863 by Carl Sonklar , and locals may have climbed it earlier. Since September 2013 there has been a small summit cross on the summit that can only be seen from the south side .

Increase opportunities

The most popular ascent starts in Rein and leads in a north-westerly direction on alpine paths to the Hirberalm. From there it goes pathless over meadow slopes in the direction of the striking south shoulder of the mountain ( 2558  m ), on which a stone man is visible from afar. From there, continue in a northerly direction, preferably in a depression to the left (west) of the southern ridge of the mountain, which is clearly visible in the lower area. So you get to the main ridge in a notch between the south-west summit ( 2995  m ) and the main summit. The last few meters follow the main ridge, partly directly on the ridge or in the flank to the right (southeast) of it.

If the snow conditions are safe, it is also possible to climb the Hirbernock as part of a ski tour . The ascent and descent routes from the Hirberalm largely correspond to those in summer.
