history

Johannes Franz Hirsch founded the company in 1765 as a leather master craftsman in Neunkirchen , Lower Austria . In 1935 the Hirsch vacuum belt was invented and patented for the emerging automotive industry.

After 1945, Hans Hirsch moved his headquarters to Carinthia and processed leather scraps from the shoe industry into bracelets for watches . In 1955, Hirsch invented a method for seamlessly joining upper and lining leather. It was included in the handbook of leather and bag masters as the Hirsch Rembordé technique and has been the standard in the watch strap industry ever since. In 1961 the Hirsch vending machine for watch straps followed. The design of the vending machines was influenced by architects and designers over time. The vending machine developed by Hans Hollein is exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City . Under the son and successor of Hans Hirsch , Hermann Hirsch , the products were refined and exported for the first time.

In 1991 Hirsch started producing straps for watches in India . Together with the Italian designer Matteo Thun , the new Corniche sales display was developed in 1995 and received the European Design Award. The company has been run by Robert Hirsch, Hermann Hirsch's son, since 2000. Hirsch is now the main supplier to the Swiss luxury watch industry and not only manufactures bracelets from leather, but also from metal , textiles and rubber .

Hirsch developed an IDentification bracelet in 2002. With the help of integrated microchips , the bracelets can be equipped with additional functions and access authorizations, monetary values or personal data can be stored in them. In 2005 Robert Hirsch bought the company from his father.
