Hitomi Kinue
Hitomi Kinue ( Japanese 人 見 絹 枝 , unreformed Romanization Hitomi Kinuye ; born January 1, 1907 in Fukunari, Fukuhama , Mitsu-gun (today: Fukunari, Minami-ku , Okayama ), Okayama Prefecture ; † August 2, 1931 ) was one Japanese athlete who was successful at the Women's World Games in the 1920s . In 1926 she was the only Japanese participant in Gothenburg, and in Prague in 1930 in a team of six. She started at the first Olympic Games in which women were allowed in athletics , won a silver medal. She was the only woman on the 40-man Japanese team and the first woman to win an Olympic medal for Japan.
Her first athletic achievement was when she was 16 when she jumped 4.67 m. After finishing school, the farmer's daughter attended the women's college for physical education. She used her talent as a writer as a journalist for a Japanese newspaper.
She died of pneumonia when she was only 24 years old. In August 1934, a sports competition was held in Prague in memory of her, in which the Japanese team from the 4th London Women's World Games on their way home took part.
