The . Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Mark ( Serbian : Црква Светог апостола и јеванђелисте Марка, Crkva Svetog apostola i jevanđeliste Marka) is a Serbian Orthodox church in Donja Lupljanica , a village in the Opština Derventa , in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina .

history

Shortly before the outbreak of the Yugoslav wars , the first church of the same patronage was built in the cemetery from 1988 to 1989 . The old church was consecrated on May 1, 1989 by the then bishop of the Zvornik-Tuzla Vasilije (Kačavenda) eparchy . The godparents of this church were Boško and Kosovka Čučuković and Mitar and Milena Sarić. The godparents of the church bell were Borko and Smiljka Simikić; all resident.

The old church was removed at the beginning of 2007 and the new St. Mark's Church was built in the same place. This church is slightly larger than the previous one and was built in a year of construction from 2007 to 2008. It was built according to a design by the architect Siniša Marić from Derventa.

On June 15, 2008, the church was inaugurated by the then bishop of the Zvornik-Tuzla Vasilije (Kačavenda) eparchy. The godparents of this church are Marica and Julija Popović. The godparents of the church cross are Ratko, Nevenka and Perica Đekić and the godfather of the iconostasis is Marinko Mikerević.

The single-nave church on an area of ​​9 m × 5 m has a semicircular altar - apse in the east and a church tower with a small narthex and an onion dome in the west. The entrance to the church is also on the west side.

Typical for Orthodox church buildings, it has a (wooden) iconostasis with icons . The icons and iconostasis are works of the art workshop of Aleksandar Ninković from Modriča . The interior of the church was painted with Byzantine frescoes in 2009 by Aleksandar Živadinović from the Serbian capital Belgrade .

Parish

The parish Donja Lupljanica was founded in 2018 and includes the following villages: Donja Bišnja , Donji Detlak , Donja Lupljanica, Gornja Bišnja , Gornja Lupljanica , Osojci and Rapćani . Before the independent parish was founded, the villages belonged to the Derventa I parish. The parish priest is Željko Božić.

In the northern center of Donja Lupljanica in the hamlet Popovića gaj, there is the parish church of St. Vasilije Ostroški , dedicated to St. Vasilije Ostroški the miracle worker .
