The Church of St. Basil of Ostrog. ( Serbian : Црква Светог Василија Острошког, Crkva Svetog Vasilije Ostroškog) is a Serbian Orthodox church in Donja Lupljanica , a village in the Opština Derventa , in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina .

The church, built from 1999 to 2001, is the parish church of the Lupljanica parish in the Derventa dean's office of the Zvornik - Tuzla eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The church is dedicated to St. Vasilije Ostroški the miracle worker .

location

The church is located in the northern center of Donja Lupljanica in the hamlet of Popovića gaj. Next to the church, in the fenced church yard, there is a memorial to the soldiers and civilians from the village who were killed in the Bosnian War .

The village is located about seven kilometers southwest of the municipal capital Derventa in the Republika Srpska , one of the two large entities of the country.

history

After the Bosnian War, the inhabitants of the village wanted to build a Serbian Orthodox church in the village. At the beginning of June 1999 the first preparations for the church building began and a building committee was founded. The then bishop of the eparchy Vasilije (Kačavenda) gave his blessing on the building of the church on June 18th.

On Sunday, September 26, 1999, the foundations of the church were consecrated by Bishop Vasilije (Kačavenda) with the assistance of several priests on the building plot donated by Rade Popović, while the godparents of the church foundations were the brothers Darko and Slaviša Popović. The size of the donated building plot is 411 m².

In 2001 the building of the church was finished. And on May 20, 2001, the church was solemnly consecrated by Bishop Vasilije (Kačavenda) with the assistance of several priests and the presence of hundreds of believers. This happened during the tenure of Archpriest Dragan Kainović of the parish of Derventa. The church is sponsored by Vinko and Dragica Popović from Donja Lupljanica.

With the establishment of the parish Lupljanica, the former branch church was elevated to a parish church.

architecture

The single-nave church is smaller (10 m × 5.75 m) and has a semicircular altar - apse in the east and a church tower with onion dome and main entrance in the west. There is another side entrance on the south facade.

Typical for Orthodox church buildings, it has a (wooden) iconostasis with icons . The interior of the church is not currently frescoed .

Parish

The parish Donja Lupljanica was founded in 2018 and includes the following villages: Donja Bišnja , Donji Detlak , Donja Lupljanica, Gornja Bišnja , Gornja Lupljanica , Osojci and Rapćani . Before the independent parish was founded, the villages belonged to the Derventa I parish. The parish priest is Željko Božić.

On the Serbian Orthodox village cemetery groblje Bojanić Donja Lupljanica is the daughter church of the parish, the cemetery church Hl. Markus , dedicated to St. Apostle and Evangelist , Mark .
