The Hoenkuppe is 720  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Franconian Forest and has always been the border region between the Upper Franconian district of Kronach in Bavaria and the Thuringian Slate Mountains in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt , Thuringia ( Germany ).

Geography and geology

The Hoenkuppe is located about a thousand meters northeast of the municipality of Lichtenhain near Graefenthal in the Franconian Forest Nature Park, right on the border with the Thuringian Forest Nature Park . The mountain has always been considered the local mountain of the community. The hill-like mountain top is overgrown with isolated conifers.

The Hoenkuppe and the Razenberg are considered the northernmost mountains in Bavaria.
