The Hofreite with the former tannery at Oberstrasse 11a, 13 is a building in Darmstadt-Eberstadt .
History and description
The Hofreite Oberstraße 13 is essentially a medieval , Frankish farm . The remains of the historic building are the two-storey , plastered traufständige half-timbered house from 1606 and the Renaissance portal with the date 1594 in after 1850 converted western massive house . The two parts of the building are connected to one another by a gate.
After 1850 - the property was now owned by master bricklayer Christoph Pfeiffer - the gable-facing building at Oberstrasse 13 was converted and the tannery building at the rear ( Oberstrasse 11a ) was made of quarry stone . The building on the banks of the Modau housed the tannery . The saddle roof of the large-volume tannery building is constructed as a reclining chair in oak .
A side passage through the building connects - through a picturesque iron footbridge over the Modau - the front part of the property with a cottage garden on the south side of the Modau.
Today the tannery building houses a branch of the Darmstadt City Library .
