Hogi's Family… a totally prickly affair (alternative: a hedgehog named Hogi ) is an Austrian animal comedy by director and producer Kurt Mündl from 2009. The film was supported by wald.zeit Austria - Platform for Forest Communication and the Austrian Ministry of Life .
action
The film tells the life story of the hedgehog Hogi , who is rescued in autumn by the old Hanna, who is referred to in the film as the "hedgehog woman" because she has made it her business to care for and raise small, orphaned hedgehogs. But when she forgets to close the balcony door, Hogi answers nature's call. He makes new friends and faces a lot of problems.
production
In more than two years of shooting, Universum director Kurt Mündl accompanied around 20 hedgehogs who took turns as the main actors in the film. All animal shots are real and filmed in the wild. Only a few scenes were edited using computer animation.
Under his direction, the episode The Year of the Hedgehog of the Universe television series was edited from the raw material of nature shots from which the movie was made . This is a pure nature documentation without a child's story and CGI effects.
criticism
Christina Krisch wrote in the Kronen-Zeitung on October 21, 2009 that the internationally acclaimed filmmaker Kurt Mündl had succeeded in creating a highly entertaining symbiosis of cheeky comic films and a magnificent natural spectacle.
"Funny and courageous, with a separate narrator voice for Hogi - namely that of Alf speaker Tommi Piper - the life of a hedgehog is prepared in a child-friendly manner and told in a refreshing new way from the hedgehog's perspective. Numerous beautiful shots, including many artistic time-lapse sequences, allow an unfamiliar insight into the local nature, immerse us in romantic mountain worlds, high moors and forests and awaken childhood memories in many adults. The German Nature Conservation Association has chosen the hedgehog as Wild Animal of the Year 2009 - and this is the film for it! "
“ A touch of profundity - with a lot of patience, the film was shot for two and a half years, the result is a simple-looking, but complex, loving and amusing insight into the life of the shy wild animal and its problems, such as the fact that, due to the narrowing of their habitat, they are becoming more and more into the Proximity to people and thus in acute danger.
