High waterfall
First ascent August 28, 1890 by Ludwig Purtscheller (tourist)
Normal way From the Schweinfurt from the southeast through the Wannenkar

The high waterfall is a 3003  m above sea level. A. high summit at the junction of three sharp, almost flat ridges in the northwestern Stubai Alps in Tyrol . It is located east above the Ötztal about 600 meters south-east of the Hochreichkopf ( 3010  m ). The somewhat strange name of the mountain can be traced back to a change in meaning. It can be assumed that there is a connection to the nearby Stuibenfall . The first known ascent took place on August 28, 1890 by Ludwig Purtscheller over the southeast ridge. Friedrich Stolz and Arthur Ledl first reached the summit via the northwest ridge on July 30, 1899.

Location and surroundings

The Hohe Wasserfalle represents the junction of three sharp, jagged ridges. The northwest ridge to the Hochreichscharte ( 2912  m ) connects the summit with the Hochreichkopf . The southeast ridge leads to the Gaißkogel ( 2718  m ), the end point of the south ridge is the Peistakogel ( 2641  m ). South of the Peistakogel is the Horlachtal , which flows into the Ötztal below Niederthai . In the southeast of High water trap is the long Wannenkar , a vast, filled with coarse boulders Kar between South and south-east ridge of the mountain. In the northeast are the remains of the Steinkar glacier .

Increase opportunities

The normal route leads from the Schweinfurter Hütte over the Finstertaler Alm through the Lange Wannenkar to the last corner of the Kares. From there, a steep slope leads to a channel that leads into a notch immediately west of the summit. The route to the summit marked the last few meters through the chute to the summit easy climbing require ( UIAA I to II. ). The transition from the summit with a cross to the secondary summit, which is about the same height and a few meters to the west, is exposed and requires climbing in the II degree. It takes a good three hours from the hut to the summit. Alternatively, the Lange Wannenkar can be reached directly from Niederthai via the Gruejoch .

The ascent is also possible as a ski tour , the usual ascent roughly corresponds to the normal route in summer.
