Hohenwart is a district of Pforzheim in Baden-Württemberg . The place is located in the northern Black Forest about 500 m above sea level, about nine kilometers south of the core city of Pforzheim on the ridge between Nagold and Würm . Hohenwart extends over an area of 4.92 km² and has around 1700 inhabitants.
history
The first settlement of today's local area took place between 850 and 1000. Hohenwart was first mentioned in a document in 1130, when the town came into the possession of the Hirsau monastery through an exchange with the Count Palatine of Tübingen . For a long time the place belonged to the rule of the barons of Gemmingen , until the fiefdom was bought back by the margraves of Baden .
In the course of community reform in Baden-Württemberg from the beginning of the 1970s, numerous previously independent communities were amalgamated or incorporated into nearby cities. A referendum was held in Hohenwart, with the result that 87% of the citizens eligible to vote were in favor of incorporation into Pforzheim.
On April 1, 1972 Hohenwart was incorporated into the city of Pforzheim. As a district, Hohenwart has an eight-member local council and its own local administration. A single elementary school is the only educational institution in town.
Businesses and associations
In Hohenwart there are only a few, smaller businesses, including an inn and a branch each of the Sparkasse and Raiffeisenbank.
Although the district is quite small, it has several clubs: music club, sports club, small animal breeders club, volleyball club, table tennis club, fruit and horticultural club, a local branch of the Black Forest club , shooting club, men's choir, Hefe-Freunde-Hohenwart and the support association of the Hohenwart elementary school.
The Hohenwart Forum, a conference and education center of the Evangelical Church in Pforzheim, is located on the edge of Hohenwart. There is a meditation labyrinth with three passages on the premises of the conference center.
