The high box is a 3189  m above sea level. A. high mountain peaks of the Glockner group on the border between East Tyrol and Salzburg. It was first climbed by O. Lang on June 29, 1908; E. Friedl, R. Gerin and O. Pitschmann made the first crossing to the Ödenwinkelwand on August 7, 1911.

The Hohe Kasten is located in the Tauern main ridge in the west of the Glockner Group in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park . The mountain peak is on the border between the municipalities of Kals am Großglockner (East Tyrol) in the south and Uttendorf (Land Salzburg) in the north. The Hohen Kastengrat is a double peak at the highest point of the Kastengrat, the southern ridge of the Hohen Kasten. The east summit is the main summit, the west summit is 3180  m above sea level. A. only slightly lower. The Kasten ridge separates the Hintere Kastenkees in the northwest from the Vorderen Kastenkees in the southeast. The Ödenwinkelkees is also north of the Hohe Kasten. On the Kasten ridge, next to the Hohe Kasten in the north, there is the Obere Kasten ( 2898  m above sea level ) and the Untere Kasten ( 3025  m above sea level ) in the south. West of the West Summit the High box is the box tower ( 2917  m above sea level. A. ), east of the main peak is separated by the box-lip ( 23160  m above sea level. A. ) the Kastengratwand ( 3220  m above sea level. A. ) and the Öden angle wall ( 3325  m above sea level ). The closest valley is the Kalser Dorfertal in the southwest .

Promotion opportunities

The normal route to the Hohen Kasten starts at the Kalser Tauern , from where you can climb the Malefusleiten southwest into the Block kar in front of the southwest ridge of the Hohen Kasten. The further ascent takes place via the Hinteren Kastenkees to the level terrace saddle of the southwest ridge and then via the southwest ridge ( III ).
