Hold On, I'm Comin ' is a soul song written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter . It appeared on Sam & Dave's album Hold On, I'm Comin ' in March 1966 . The original publication is listed under Stax (S-189). The version peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and ranked number 1 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart in 1966.
Cover versions
Sam & Dave released an album of the same name in 1966 with this song in the first place. In 1980, the piece became known again with the film Blues Brothers , even if it was not included on the accompanying soundtrack albums.
Eric Clapton and BB King released their version in 2000 as the B-side of their single Help the Poor . The title also appears on the collaboration album Riding with the King from 2000 and Forever Man from 2015. In addition to Clapton and King as guitarists and vocalists , Nathan East on bass , Steve Gadd as drummer and Joe Sample and Tim Carmon as keyboardist . Andy Fairweather Low and Doyle Bramhall II played rhythm guitar. Susannah Melvoin and Wendy Melvoin acted as background singers . Other cover versions include Brian May , Bill Cosby , George Benson , Aretha Franklin , Michael Bolton and Tina Turner .
