Holgate is a village in the northwestern part of the US state Ohio in Henry County and is located about 47 miles southwest of the next largest city, Toledo . At the 2000 census, the village had 1,194 inhabitants.
history
Before 1866, Holgate and the surrounding area consisted only of moorland and largely untouched flora and fauna, located in the Black Swamp . Around 1873, the entire area was finally freed from the swamps and made developable. At this time, a merger of individual properties was created, which was called Holgate and was surrounded by a hardwood forest.
