Holger Ballwanz (born September 7, 1967 in Mölln ) is a former German football player . He played in defense and midfield.

Active career

Ballwanz grew up in Mölln and learned at the local Möllner SV the football games . He rose with the first men's team from the district class to the district league, before he followed the call of his discoverer Gerd-Volker Schock in 1987 and switched to the amateurs of Hamburger SV . He had his first professional appearance at HSV in the 1989/90 season in the game against Werder Bremen . There he also scored a header goal. Between 1989 and 1992 he made 41 Bundesliga appearances as a defender and was part of the tribe. He scored three goals. In the 1990/91 season he played two games in the DFB Cup for HSV.

In 1992 he moved to VfL Wolfsburg , which at that time was still playing in the 2nd Bundesliga and with whom he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga in 1997 . At VfL he played until 2000. He let his active playing career come to an end in the 2000/01 season at Hannover 96 in the second division.

The defender's strength was his header game.

Coaching

Ballwanz lives in Wolfsburg and was assistant coach at VfL Wolfsburg in the 2006/07 season. At a later point in time he worked as an assistant coach for the U-19s at VfL. From November 2008 to mid-September 2011 Ballwanz coached the national division SSV Vorsfelde . In the 2008/09 season he was reactivated and completed six missions for SSV Vorsfelde in the Oberliga Niedersachsen-Ost , in which he did not score a goal.

Currently (as of November 12, 2015) he is VfL Wolfsburg's fan representative.
