Holm of Grimbister is an inhabited tidal island up to 8.0 m high in Firth Bay , which is connected by a dam to Finstown on the Orkney island of Mainland in Scotland . The Bay of Firth is a bay of the Wide Firth, which lies to the north. The uninhabited accompanying island Damsay is located northeast of Holm in the bay . The Holm of Grimbister dam connects the island with Holm Point, north of Finstown on the mainland.
Although the island was inhabited in 2007 since it was the residence of a candidate for the Scottish general election in 2007, it was not listed as such in 2001. In 2010, press reports confirmed that at least two people were living on the island at the time. The 2011 census recorded the population at three. In 2016, the roughly 40- acre (16-hectare) island with a seal colony was reported to be for sale for £ 300,000.
