Holstein is a city in Ida County in the western US state of Iowa . Holstein has 1470 inhabitants on an area of ​​3.8 km². The population density is 392.3 / km². Holstein is affected by US Highway 59 and is near the border with Cherokee County .

history

Holstein Iowa was founded by German immigrants in 1882 after some farmers had already settled there in 1868. More German settlers from New Holstein , Wisconsin followed in 1876 . Previously, Henry Thielmann and his wife had purchased a piece of prairie land northeast of the urban area in 1879 .

Facilities

Holstein has a school, churches, a restaurant, a gas station, banks, a grocery store, a fire brigade and a post office. Since 2011, the city has had the Rosemary Clausen Center, a theater, especially for musical performances. In the first year, among others, the Afro-American bass-baritone Simon Estes was a guest.
