Holtorf is a district of the town of Schnackenburg in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony .
geography
The place is 4 kilometers west-southwest of Schnackenburg and 24 kilometers northeast of Lüchow (Wendland) , the seat of the Lüchow-Dannenberg district. The neighboring towns are Gandow in the north, Wustrow and Schnackenburg in the northeast, Gummern and Kapern in the southeast, Nienwalde and Quamstedt in the southwest and Elbholz in the northwest.
The Elbe flows north 1.5 km away. The B 493 runs south at a distance of 1.5 km.
history
The first written mention of Holtorf comes from the year 1347. Therein the place was recorded under "in Holtdorp".
church
The massive transverse rectangular west tower and the foundation walls up to a height of 2.5 meters have been preserved from a late-Gothic brick building , which probably dates from the 14th century . In 1745 the church was renovated as a rectangular baroque hall building . The baptism and pulpit altar date from the years 1787/90. In an investigation in 1986, extensive wall paintings from the 15th and 16th centuries were found in the Protestant church .
