The Bar 25 (spelling: Bar25 , short: Bar ) was a techno club on the banks of the Spree in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain . In the period of its existence from 2003 to 2010, it also achieved international fame in the techno scene. After seven years, the bar closed in September 2010 after a five-day party. The site was cleared shortly afterwards.

The area on which the bar was located is between Holzmarktstrasse and the north bank of the Spree , not far from the Ostbahnhof . The area was separated from the street by a high wooden fence. The bar itself consisted of an American saloon- style wooden shed that could only be used in summer. The bar was closed in winter.

The building has been expanded and rebuilt many times over the years. In the later years, an upscale restaurant was operated in the back of the bar. There was also a music stage, a fireplace, a hostel , a sauna area with a pool and private accommodation on the site, as many employees also lived on the site. Playground equipment such as swings or a discarded bumper car gave the bar the appearance of a playground for adults. Over the years, many of the world's most famous DJs have played their records here. A record label belonged to the club. The label Katermukke , which currently still exists, was later created in the follow- up club.

The playful and trusting atmosphere of the club, which was the center of life for many employees and guests, is shown in the documentary Bar25 - Days out of time , which premiered in German cinemas on May 3, 2012.

In the course of the development, a closing party was celebrated in autumn for several years in a row, but the lease contract was extended several times and the corresponding permits from the city administration were obtained.

After the bar closed, the operators opened the spacious Kater Holzig club on the other side of the Spree in an old soap factory and finally Kater Blau again in the immediate vicinity of the original Bar 25 .

Wood market

The successor project to Bar 25 is the “ urban village” Holzmarkt . On the premises of the Holzmarkt , which opened in May 2017, there is the techno clubKater Blau ”, a central village square, a park including a daycare center , as well as a café , bakery , restaurant , event house, rehearsal stage, recording studio and art studio .
