Honorius Kraus

Honorius Kraus OSB (born August 19, 1773 in Kronstadt , Transylvania , † June 19, 1850 in Vienna ; actually Ludwig Kraus ) was an Austrian Benedictine minister and pastor .

Life

Kraus joined the Schotten Abbey in Vienna in 1794 , was ordained a priest in 1798 and was initially a catechist and master of novices in the monastery. From 1802 he taught church history and canon law at the theological home school of the Schottenstift. After the founding of Schottengymnasiums 1807 he was there until 1811 Professor of the second humanity classes Eloquentia .

From 1811 Kraus found his real field of activity as pastor of Schottenfeld in pastoral care. In 1818 he founded the aid association for the poor , in 1819 a mortuary association and in 1823 the first organized and officially approved church music association in Vienna. Together with Ludwig Wilhelm Mauthner , he is the founder of the St. Anna Children's Hospital - the first of its kind in Austria-Hungary .
