The Hoppe rock flower ( Draba hoppeana ) is a species of rock flower ( Draba ) within the cruciferous family (Brassicaceae). It thrives in the European mountains from the Pyrenees to the Balkan Peninsula . It is named after the botanist David Heinrich Hoppe .

Vegetative characteristics

The Hoppe rock flower is a perennial , herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 1 to 3, rarely 6 centimeters. It forms dense lawns . The flower stalks have no leaves. The leaves are in dense, spherical rosettes. The leaf blades are linear-lanceolate and keeled.

Generative characteristics

The flowering time is in July and August. Three to six flowers stand together in the racemose inflorescences . The hermaphrodite flowers are fourfold. The four free petals are bright yellow and 3 millimeters long. The stamens are the same length.

The fruit stalk is 2 to 4 millimeters long. The pods are 4 to 7 millimeters long and bare. The pen is the fruit time about 1 millimeter long.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

The pollination is done by insects or self-pollination .

Occurrence

The Hoppe rock flower occurs in the Silicate Alps . It grows in rock crevices, rock rubble and in snow valleys over calcium silicate slate at the alpine to nival elevation . It occurs at altitudes between 2600 and 3200 meters.

It is an association character species of the Drabo-Saxifragetum from the order Drabetalia hoppeanae and the association Drabion hoppeanae.
