The Horse Lake is a lake about 10 kilometers east of 100 Mile House , 5 km north of Lone Butte between Highways 97 and 24 at the foot of the Cariboo Mountains in the Cariboo Regional District of the Canadian province of British Columbia .
The Bridge Creek flows through the lake from east to west and drains it to the northeastern Canim Lake , which in turn flows over the Canim River and Mahood River to the Clearwater River .
Nearby, also on Highway 24, also known as the Fishing Highway , are Bridge Lake , Sheridan Lake , Deka Lake and Green Lake . The closest towns are Kamloops and Kelowna .
The Horse Lake has an area of 1162.3 ha. It is about 12 km long, 1.5 km wide and up to 34.4 m (other source: 80 m) deep, making it one of the larger of the numerous lakes in the Region. It froze over between November and May. Its water heats up to 21 ° C in summer. Horse Lake is well suited for fishing for American char ( Salvelinus namaycush ), rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) and sockeye salmon (Kokanee, the non-anadromous form), as well as for windsurfing , sailing and motor boating. The surrounding wooded and mountainous area offers further leisure opportunities.
