Horst Gernhardt

Horst Gernhardt (born November 17, 1923 - October 21, 1994 ) was a German football player .

The striker, who was blind in one eye due to a war injury, moved from VfL 06 Saalfeld to Werder Bremen in 1947 . In the Oberliga Nord , Horst Gernhardt scored 76 goals in 136 games by 1953. For the 1953/54 season Gernhardt moved to SSV Reutlingen 05 , which was then playing in the II Division . In his first season with the SSV he was promoted to the Oberliga Süd . In the league season 1954/55 Horst Gernhardt was runner-up there with Reutlingen. Gernhardts Reutlinger had thus secured participation in the qualifying round for the final round for the 1955 German championship . Horst Gernhardt was used in this qualifying round in the 3-0 defeat of his team against SV Sodingen as well as in the subsequent 2-1 defeat of SSV Reutlingen against Wormatia Worms . In the subsequent league season Horst Gernhardt rose with SSV Reutlingen in the II. Division. There Gernhardt succeeded in direct resurgence with SSV Reutlingen in the 1956/57 season . On the 18th matchday of the league season 1957/58 on December 14, 1957 against BC Augsburg , he represented the Reutlingen goalkeeper Karl Bögelein for a few minutes . After conceding two goals from Augsburg's Ulrich Biesinger within two minutes , he left the position of goalkeeper to his teammate Kurt Vaas for the rest of the game . Because of a torn cruciate ligament , Horst Gernhardt ended his playing career in 1961. For SSV Reutlingen Gernhardt was in a total of 105 league games in action, in which he scored 18 goals.

Gernhardt died of a heart attack three weeks before his 71st birthday.
