Horst Hertelt

Horst Hertelt (born October 1, 1929 in Königsbrück ) is a former German journalist in the GDR . From 1970 to 1990 he was editor-in-chief of BZ am Abend .

Life

Hertelt, son of a baker, attended elementary school and also learned to be a baker. He then worked in his parents' company and in Pulsnitz . After the Second World War , he became a member of the Antifa youth committee in Dresden in 1945 . He joined the FDJ and became a member of the SED in 1952 .

He began training as a journalist in 1951 and was an editorial assistant from 1951 to 1961, then a department head and member of the editorial board of the Lausitzer Rundschau in Cottbus . He completed his studies as a journalist. From 1961 to 1965 he was a correspondent for ADN and New Germany in Belgrade . From 1965 to 1970 he was Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the NBI in East Berlin . In December 1970 he took over the position of editor-in-chief of the BZ in the evening as the successor to the late Ernst Hansch . From May 1971 to 1989 he was a member of the SED district leadership in Berlin and from November 1971 to 1990 of the Berlin city council . From 1972 he was a member of the central board of the VDJ and until 1977 also its presidium.
