Horum is a district of the municipality of Wangerland in the district of Friesland in Lower Saxony .

The place is in the northern part of the Wangerland. The district road 87, the so-called Störtebekerstrasse, runs through Horum .

history

In 1542 Horum was called "up den hoern", that is, on the corner, namely the northeast corner of Jeverland , which consists of sand and shells . Later the place name "up den horen" became the name Horum.

The largest employer in Horum from 1902 was the Horum dairy , in 1972 the company fell victim to the "dairy death". From 1988, the dairy building designed by the architect Theodor Eilers (* 1867 , † 1949 ) was converted into a hotel.

The inhabitants of the region, which in the past was dominated by agriculture , now live mainly from tourism .
