Friederikensiel is a district in the northwest of the municipality of Wangerland in the district of Friesland in Lower Saxony .

location

The place is on the county road K 86, a connecting road between the county road K 87 from Horumersiel and the state road L 808 to Carolinensiel . The North Sea is only about one kilometer to the north. From the dike to the Elisabeth-Außengroden you can see the island of Wangerooge .

history

The Sielort was created in 1721 when the Friederikengroden was dyed in the area of the Harle Bay in Jeverschem . The place and Groden of the same name are named after Hedwig Friederike von Württemberg-Weiltingen , the wife of Prince Johann August zu Anhalt-Zerbst .

In addition to the Dredge was in the dike line a U-shaped recess for an outboard dock built. Similar constructions had already proven themselves in the construction of the Neuharlingersiel and the Sophiensiel. The principle involved damming the inland water of the deep behind the sluice and opening the sluice gates when the tide was running down , so that the dammed water flowed out through the harbor basin and washed away silt deposits . Additional efforts by the Zerbst rule to establish a trading port in Friederikensiel, however, showed little success. In addition, the port silted up very quickly because of the insufficient flushing effect and was finally abandoned in 1758. The sewer was set tight and the drainage over the Frederikentief has since taken place via the Tettenser Tief in the direction of Horumersiel on the Outer Jade .

Attractions

About one kilometer west of Friederikensiel is the Friederikenvorwerk , a former princely domain . The former manor house is privately owned and has a remarkable entrance portal from 1738. Above the portal are the coats of arms of the second generation of the Zerbst dynasty of the Jever rule. Next to the coat of arms of Prince Johann August (IA) von Anhalt-Zerbst is that of his wife Hedwig Friederike (HF) von Württemberg. In between there is a picture of the Danish Elephant Order .
