history
Altgarmssiel is an old Sielort in Harlebucht . The first written mention as Germsersyhl is dated to 1535. A jug house is documented for 1625. In the course of the silting up of Harlebucht, the port and sluice function had to be transferred to the New Garmser Sluice in 1640 . The traffic accessibility of Altgarmssiel improved significantly when the Amtsverbandchaussee Jever-Carolinensiel was built in the second half of the 19th century. In order to give the beneficiaries of the road a financial share, road money was raised in Altgarmssiel from 1884 to 1900.
