Hostages of Ayatollah ( HOA ) was a German punk band from Velbert , who wrote pieces of music in the genres of hardcore punk and skate punk .

history

The band was formed in 1981. From 1982 she played in her permanent line-up with singer Jah-Jah, guitarist Jacho, bassist Micha and drummer Torso.

In 1983 the Hostages of Ayatollah recorded their first demo tape Aha ; a year later the first single Hello Neighbor was released . In the following time the group played many concerts until 1986 the LP Kaaba Kaaba Hey was released. However, the success of this publication did not materialize, which led the band to a temporary breakup.

In 1987 the group got back together. The musicians changed the style of their music, and English-language texts were now used in the pieces of music. The following year the band recorded their second LP Simply Too Much Nothing , which, however, led to some great discontent among the following. In addition, bassist Micha repeatedly had drug problems , which ultimately led to the band's final breakup in 1989.

Guitarist Jacho founded the punk band Terrorgruppe in Berlin-Kreuzberg in 1993 under the new artist name " Johnny Bottrop " , from which The Bottrops later emerged. Drummer Torso became a member of Carnival of Souls .

In 2009 the Hostages Of Ayatollah released AntHOAlogy in memory of the bassist Micha, who died in India in 2004 , which was marketed as CD or LP - each in combination with a DVD .

meaning

The music magazine Ox described Hostages of Ayatollah as a group that "made an essential contribution to the development of punk and hardcore" in Germany. Even the Rock Hard was that the band with their debut EP, consisting of "oller [v] power, melody and good German texts" the hardcore feeling from the US, especially from Minor Threat , had transferred congenial. At the same time, the group and Inferno formed the nucleus for the terror group, which also set the song Hello, Neighbor to music and provided it with a different text.
