Hotel Albrechtshof (Berlin-Center)
The Hotel Albrechtshof is a hotel in the Berlin district of Mitte . It is located at Albrechtstraße 8 at the corner of Marienstraße 16-17 in Friedrich-Wilhelm-Stadt . The building opposite at Albrechtstrasse 17, today Hotel Allegra, also bore the same name . Both buildings are under monument protection and belong to the Albrechtshof Hotel-Betriebs-GmbH , which is a member of the Association of Christian Hoteliers .
In 1861, the widow of a master stonemason had a three-storey tenement house built with a staircase and right and left extensions at Albrechtstrasse 17, which was converted into a hotel in 1910. Today it is listed as a monument with the name Albrechtshof in the Berlin State Monument List . At the same time (1908–1913) Otto Johannis built a Christian hospice on the opposite side of the street on behalf of the Berlin City Mission , which was later also named Albrechtshof as a hotel . It became a member of the Association of Christian Hotels founded in 1904 and is still part of the Berlin City Mission. During the time of National Socialism , meetings of the Reich Brotherhood Council of the Confessing Church took place in the hotel . In the last months of the Second World War , the hotel housed the Charité eye clinic and a pharmaceutical trade . In the period that followed, all-German and international church conferences were held here, at which Martin Luther King was also a guest. His name is written in the prayer chapel in the basement.
