history

Houzz was founded in 2008 by the couple Adi Tatarko and Alon Cohen and launched in February 2009. The company's name is a combination of the words "house" and "buzz". Based on their experience in renovating their house, the two developed an online platform on which homeowners can network with experts from the furnishing and construction industry. A mobile app for the iPad was released in November 2010 , the version for the Android operating system followed in December 2012. In August 2013, the iPhone and iPad app had already been downloaded several million times. Houzz CEO and Co-Founder Adi Tatarko was a speaker at Techmanity, a technology and innovation conference in Silicon Valley, in October 2014. In November 2014 Tatarko spoke with Alfred Lin at the Web Summit in Dublin, the largest technology conference in Europe.

financing

In September 2010, Tatarko and Cohen raised $ 2 million in first-round financing and began hiring staff for the Palo Alto office. The funding round was led by Oren Zeev of Orens Capital, who joined Houzz's board of directors. In 2011, Houzz secured $ 11.6 million in a follow-up round led by Sequoia Capital and other investors. Alfred Lin, Vice President and former top executive at Zappos , joined the Houzz Board of Directors. In 2013, Houzz announced a third round of investors with $ 35 million in capital, led by NEA and GGV Capital, with the participation of Sequoia Capital, Comcast Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) and David Sacks. In 2014, Houzz announced the completion of another $ 165 million financing round, led by Sequoia and involving existing investors Oren Zeev, New Enterprise Associates (NEA), GGV Capital and KPCB, as well as new entrants DST Global and T. Rowe Price . In 2017, Houzz received another $ 400 million funding from an unnamed investor. The company has since been valued at $ 4 billion.
