Jan Marek Hartman (born March 18, 1967 in Breslau ) is a Polish philosopher , university lecturer , publicist and politician.

Jan Marek Hartman was born into an assimilated Jewish family to the mathematician Stanisław Hartman (1914–1992) and a relative of Rabbi Izaak Kramsztyk (1814–1889).

Hartman studied philosophy at the Catholic University of Lublin . From 1990 to 1994 he was a doctoral student at the Philosophical Institute of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow , since 1994 its assistant. Since February 1995 he was employed as an assistant, since February 1995 as an adjunct at the Institute for Medical Philosophy of the Collegium Medicum of the same university, in 2004 he was promoted to head of this institute.

His doctoral thesis, written in 1995 at the Jagiellonian University under Władysław Stróżewski , was entitled Problematics of Philosophical Heuristics . In 2008 he received the title of Professor of Humanistic Sciences and has been a full professor since 2011.

From 2005 to 2008 he was professor at the Aleksander Gieysztor Humanistic Academy in Pułtusk , and from 2008 to 2011 professor at the Malopolska University of Economics in Tarnów .

His scientific work is devoted to metaphilosophy and philosophical heuristics as well as the philosophy of politics, ethics and bioethics. In public appearances he represents the liberal point of view.

Hartmann wrote several books, also published articles in Gazeta Wyborcza , Tygodnik Powszechny , Rzeczpospolita , Polityka and others. a. He is the editor of the philosophical journal “Principia”.

From 2002 to 2011 he was deputy chairman of the Polish partner organization of the German-Polish Academic Society . From 2007 to 2013 he was a member of the Polish organization of B'nai B'rith . In 1993 he spent six months as a junior visiting fellow at the Vienna Institute for Human Sciences . In January and February 2000 he was a visiting scholar at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Aberdeen .

He was a party member of Unia Wolności and a member of Bronisław Komorowski's election committee prior to the 2010 presidential election.

In 2012 he joined the Ruch Palikota ( Palikot movement ), in 2013 he coordinated the Europe Plus movement in Lesser Poland and joined the Twój Ruch party .

He applied unsuccessfully in the 2014 European elections in Poland . After an article on incest , he was expelled from the Twój Ruch party and criticized by the Jagiellonian University.

Jan Hartman is considered a lateral thinker and atheist .
