Howard Goldberg (born April 21, 1948 in New York ) is an American film director , screenwriter , film producer and writer , who was best known for cinema productions such as Eden and Jake Squared .

life and career

Howard Alan Goldberg, born in New York State in 1948, was a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Art (BFA, film and painting) and also studied at New York University . In 1976 he made his directorial debut for the cinema with the gangster comedy Apple Pie , and he also acted as producer, screenwriter , cameraman and film editor for the film . In 1990 he worked alongside Tobe Hooper on the script for the science fiction thriller Fire Syndrome , starring Brad Dourif . In 1996 he directed the film drama Eden with the cast Joanna Going , Dylan Walsh and Sean Patrick Flanery . The film screened as a contribution to the Sundance Film Festival , where it received an award nomination in the Grand Jury Prize category . In 2013, Goldberg directed the romantic comedy Jake Squared with Elias Koteas , Jennifer Jason Leigh , Virginia Madsen in the lead roles. The film was screened at numerous festivals and received several nominations, and in 2014 it won the Beloit International Film Festival Award in the Jury Prize Best International Feature category and the Tiburon International Film Festival Award in the Golden Reel Award Best Comedy Film category . Goldberg hired the composer Brad Fiedel for his films . For Jake Squared , Fiedel worked as a music consultant, for Apple Pie in 1976 and Eden in 1996, Fiedel had already written the film music.

In addition to his work for the cinema, Howard Goldberg wrote the novel The King Of Clubs in 1982 , published by Parthenon Press, and music and lyrics for Buskers , an off-Broadway musical comedy that was nominated for a Tony Award . He also shot the video clip on Sailing for Warner Bros. Records for Rod Stewart , as well as industrial and commercials, and the half-hour television documentary Davian .
