Howling Bells (about "howling bells") is an Australian band whose members live in England.

Career

Until 2005, singer Juanita Stein, her brother Joel Stein and Glenn Moule were known under the name Waikiki and until then they still lived in Australia. In 2005 bassist Brendan Picchio joined them to complete their sound. They moved to London together , hoping to start a great career under the name Howling Bells. There they were discovered a little later by Simon Raymonde, the bassist for the British post punk band Cocteau Twins , who offered them a contract with his indie label Bella Union , with which My Latest Novel and The Dears signed, among others . Through good contacts with the previous Howling Bells record company in Australia, they came together with producer Ken Nelson, who had already produced Coldplay and Snow Patrol . In December 2005, the Howling Bells released their first single called Low Happening. The album Howling Bells followed on May 8, 2006 and has sold over 25,000 copies to date. In 2008 they signed a contract with Independiente Records and recorded their second album Radio Wars , which was released in England in March 2008.

Since then, they've been the opening act of The Futureheads , The Killers , Snow Patrol , Placebo and Mercury Rev go. If they are still quite unknown in German-speaking countries, they are repeatedly praised and celebrated by the English press. A journalist once described their style as "indie noir", as the Howling Bells' music is composed of elements from folk , rock and country and at the same time creates a mysterious atmosphere that has already been compared to the mystery series Twin Peaks by David Lynch .

In the summer of 2009, the Howling Bells appeared in the opening act of individual concerts for Coldplay's “Europe Tour 2009”. They performed in Düsseldorf , Munich and Bern .

style

The band's music has influences from rock / pop, blues and country music.
