Hrabowo (Russian, Ukrainian and Russian Грабово ; Hungarian Szidorfalva , Czech and Slovak Hrabovo , German Rechendorf or Hrabow ) is a village in the Transcarpathian Oblast and Mukachevo Raion in Ukraine . It is located about 40 kilometers east of the Slovak border. Administratively it forms together with the neighboring villages Herziwzi (Герцівці) Kryte (Крите), Pusnjakivzi (Пузняківці) and Trostjanyzja (Тростяниця) the district council of Pusnjakivzi.
history
The Ruthenian part of the village was laid out at the beginning of the 17th century by the noble Szidor family and in 1649 there were 31 serfs.
In 1711 the Swedes robbed the village, after which most of the serfs left the village. Over time it was repopulated by Ruthenians. The Schönborn rulers had buildings and ancillary rooms of a new dairy built here. So the Bohemian Forests did not arrive in a wilderness where the beech forest imposed its laws on intruders, but in a previously cultivated highland (approx. 600 m above sea level) on the outskirts of Hrabowo.
The landscape, which was previously occupied and cultivated, but overgrown by the wars and the associated epidemics, robberies, etc., has already been partially overgrown by the wilderness. And when the colonists arrived, they received a piece of land from the rulers, which they had to clear from the forest and underbrush. They could use the felled tree trunks to build their houses. They received privileges from the administration of the domain, but these only insignificantly alleviated their difficult position.
By 1880 8 of the settled families had left the village to emigrate to America. The colony only survived because Bohemian German immigrants came from the Stryj district ( Galicia ), where living conditions were no better. The inhabitants of the German colony had their own wooden church , where the pastor only came once a year; the children of the dwindling German community of Hrabowo had a school with German lessons that the German Catechists Association set up.
