Hrochův Hrádek

The ruin Hrochův Hrádek is located east of the village Dobrá Voda in the area of the town of Březnice in Okres Příbram , Czech Republic .

geography

Hrochův Hrádek is located in the Central Bohemian hill country on the left bank of the Vlčava on a steeply sloping plateau directly on the Protivín – Zdice railway line .

history

Little is known about the origins of the Hrádek fortress and its owners. It was probably built in the 10th century as a small guard castle of the early medieval Bozeň castle, protected by ramparts , and served to protect the branch of the Golden Trail between Mirovice and Březnice that ran along the Vlčava .

In the 13th century the fortress is said to have been the seat of Vladikem Hroch, after whom it was named as Hrochův Hrádek . He was probably also the builder of the mighty fortress with at least a three-story residential tower.

In the middle of the 15th century the Hrochův Hrádek Bohuslav from Němčice owned the manor. He sold it to Jošt von Pruk, who was in the service of the Rosenbergs , who was castle captain of Wittingau in 1477 and castle captain of Klingenberg between 1491 and 1499 .

The fortress was first mentioned in writing in 1543 when Zdeslav Ojíř von Očedělice sold it to Wenceslaus Bechinie von Lazan . His four sons shared the paternal inheritance in 1579, with the fortress Hrochův Hrádek with the farm and the associated village Nestrašovice Georg Bechinie von Lazan († 1582). When Georg's son Wenzel sold the village of Nestrašovice to Přibík Bukovanský von Bukovany in 1584, the desert castle Hrochův Hrádek was listed as an accessory.

For the construction of the Protivín – Zdice railway line, the southern part of the castle hill with the ruins of the residential buildings on it was demolished in 1875.

investment

All that remains of the mighty fortress is the north wall of the once three- story palace up to the height of the first floor. The early medieval complex was located in the western part of the residential castle built in the 13th century. The remains of the old ramparts are still clearly visible on the castle hill. The ruin is one of the cultural monuments of the Okres Příbram.
