Huancané is the capital of the Huancané Province in the Puno region in southern Peru . Huancané is located in the district of the same name . The city had 7521 inhabitants at the 2017 census. 10 years earlier, 7,332 inhabitants were counted.

Geographical location

The city, located at an altitude of 3841  m , is located in the Altiplano of Peru northwest of Lake Titicaca . It is located 2 kilometers east of the lower reaches of the Río Huancané . Lake Titicaca is about 6 km away. The city of Juliaca is located about 50 km southwest of Huancané.

Territorial prelature of Huancané

Huancané has been the seat of the Territorial Prelature Santiago Apóstol de Huancané since 2019 , commonly referred to in Peru as the "Prelature Huancané" ( Prelatura de Huancané ).
