When Hubert and Staller actually want to catch a parrot, they notice a corpse in the house of the parrot owner. He was apparently surprised by burglars and murdered.

The new district manager, Reimund Girwidz, who was transferred from Dortmund to Wolfratshausen, is anything but happy that Hubert and Staller are coming with murder when he takes office. Girwidz has to prove himself in his first case, but finds that everything is a little different in the country.

While Girwidz has to grapple with a false badge on his uniform and his rebellious daughter, Hubert and Staller realize that the break-in was only intended to distract and Anton Bayer was deliberately killed. His neighbor Robert Kunze, with whom Bayer had been enemies for years, is just as suspicious as Manuela Bayer, the wife of the murdered man.

The unemployed and convicted son Martin Bayer is also suspect.
