Hubertus Wandel (born December 13, 1926 in Bauchwitz, Meseritz district ; † August 26, 2019 ) was a German architect .

Life

Hubertus Wandel was a son of Willy Karl Rudolf Wandel (1889–1951) and his wife Else Martha Klara Wandel, née Liebsch (1892–1976). The Wandel family had a forge and general store in Bauchwitz. Siblings were Ursula, also called “Ulla” or “Ursel”, married Petrowsky (1920–1996), and Ingeborg “Inge” Maria Hedwig, married Gutbrod (1923–2013). He was the father of the architects Rena Wandel-Hoefer and Andrea Wandel .

He completed his studies at the TH Aachen . From September 23, 1963, together with Helmut Huber, he worked out the framework for the Werkkunstschule Trier , where he himself was teaching building materials at the time , after the former student Wolfgang Jacobi had been verbally informed by the Saarland Chamber of Architects that he was a graduate of the Interior Design course The job title "interior designer" is not allowed and this has been confirmed to the school after a query from the Saarland Ministry of Culture.

In 1969 he was the founder of Wandel Lorch Architects . From the mid-1980s he worked a lot in partnership with Günther Mönke for 20 years . His work focused on church buildings, office and administrative buildings, single and multi-family houses, memorials, hotels and restaurants, kindergartens, day care centers, youth centers, museums, concert halls, schools, special schools and universities. Recent award-winning projects are the Hinzert Memorial House and the New Synagogue in Dresden .

Hubertus Wandel had various teaching assignments. He was a member of the Bund Deutscher Arc hitekten and the Saarland Chamber of Architects. Since his health-related retirement, Hubertus Wandel lived in Hattgenstein as a pensioner, his daughter Andrea continues to run the company.
