Hugh Durant (born February 23, 1877 in London , † January 20, 1916 in Vermelles , France ) was a British marksman and pentathlete .

Hugh Durant took part in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm in three shooting disciplines and in the modern pentathlon . He finished the latter in 18th place. With the free pistol over 50 m he finished 20th in the individual, while he won the bronze medal with Horatio Poulter , Albert Kempster and Charles Stewart in the team competition behind the US and Swedish teams. With the army revolver over 30 m, he took third place in the team competition with Poulter, Kempster and Stewart, this time behind Sweden and Russia. With 289 points he was the best over 30 m and the second best shooter of the team over 50 m with 456 points.

Durant was active in the military from 1897 and fought in the Second Boer War . He has received several awards for his services. During the First World War , he fell in Vermelles in 1916 when a mortar shell belonging to his command battery exploded prematurely, killing him. He held the rank of second lieutenant .
