Hugo Baumgart

Hugo Baumgart (born December 21, 1906 in Wolmirstedt , † September 4, 1984 in Magdeburg ) was a German locksmith and a member of the Central Committee of the SED .

After attending elementary school, he completed an apprenticeship and then worked as a locksmith , working for the Buckau R. Wolf machine factory from 1921 . From 1931 he worked as a fitter in the Magdeburg Krupp plant. After 1945 he worked as a joint fitter in the heavy machinery combine Karl Liebknecht (SKL) in the Salbke district of Magdeburg .

In 1946 he became a member of the SED . From 1951 to 1971 he was party secretary of the SED departmental party organization (APO) Große Schmiede and from 1953 to 1968 he was a management member of the SED's company party organization (BPO) in the SKL. From 1954 to 1967 he was a member of the Central Committee of the SED. In addition, he was also a member of the federal executive committee of the FDGB . Baumgart received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze in 1959 and in silver in 1967.

At least in the late 1930s and early 1950s Baumgart lived in the Westerhüsen housing estate , Welsleber Strasse 168 in the Magdeburg district of Westerhüsen . Most recently he lived at Krügerbrücke 1 in Magdeburg city center.

Baumgart died at the age of 77 and was buried in the Westfriedhof in Magdeburg .
