Hugo von Fabeck

Otto Gustav Hermann Hugo von Fabeck (born February 14, 1828 in Berlin ; † August 18, 1870 at St. Privat ) was a Prussian major and commander of the Guard Rifle Battalion .

Life

Hugo was the ninth child of the Prussian Lieutenant General Carl von Fabeck and his wife Amelie, née von Massenbach . He was the uncle of the later General of the Infantry Max von Fabeck .

Coming from the cadet corps, Fabeck was transferred on May 27, 1845 as a second lieutenant to the Emperor Alexander Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 1 of the Prussian Army . In the further course of his military career he rose to captain here until April 1859 and was then a company commander in the 2nd Battalion of the 3rd Guard Landwehr Regiment for a year. Subsequently, Fabeck was initially transferred to the Queen Elisabeth Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 3 as a company commander and was appointed company commander on September 19, 1860 . With this regiment he took part in the German War in 1866 . After the peace treaty , he was transferred to the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot on October 30, 1866 while being promoted to Major . Here Fabeck commanded the Fusilier battalion until April 11, 1870 and was then appointed commander of the Guard Rifle Battalion.

Fabeck led the battalion in the war against France in 1870 . He was killed on August 18, 1870 in the Battle of Gravelotte .

In his honor, the street in Berlin-Dahlem , where the new barracks of the Guard Rifle Battalion was located, was renamed Fabeckstraße in 1905 .

He married Karoline Amalie Wanda Franziska Helene von Daum on October 6, 1864 (born October 5, 1842). The couple had the following children:

  • Helene Margarete (born January 3, 1866)
  • Margarete Amelie Mathilde (1867–1868)
  • Rosa Emilie Matilde (1869–1870)
