Hugo Fasold

Hugo Fasold (born March 2, 1933 in Göttingen ; † November 15, 2017 ) was a German biochemist .

Life

Hugo Fasold, son of the doctor Hugo Fasold (1896-1975) of the same name, studied at the University of Erlangen , the University of Basel and the University of Munich , the subjects chemistry and medicine . After the medical state examination in 1957, he was in 1958 in Erlangen for doctor - degree in medicine doctorate , also in 1962 in Würzburg (nat rer Dr...) For Doctor of Science. At that time he had been working as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Physiological Chemistry at the University of Würzburg since 1960 . In 1965 he completed his habilitation in Würzburg.

In 1969 he was appointed to the Institute for Biochemistry at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, where he researched and taught until his retirement. Among other things, he was Vice President and Senate President of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and has been the dean of his department on several occasions.

Act

Fasold's research areas were in particular the intracellular transport and the biogenesis of ribosomes . He was u. a. Author and co-author of several textbooks for biochemistry students and for many years spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center 169 “Structure and Function of Membrane Proteins”.

In a tribute to his Frankfurt institute, it was said, in addition to his scientific work: "He made decisive progress in the expansion of the Riedberg campus and was able to contribute to the realization of the Biozentrum on the Riedberg campus as a construction officer."
