Humbelina from Jully-sur-Sarce
Humbelina of Jully-sur-Sarce or Humberga or Humberta (* in the 11th century ; † before 1136 in Jully-sur-Sarce ) was a Benedictine and prioress of the monastery of Jully-sur-Sarce. In 1703 she was beatified .
biography
Humbelina was the daughter of the knight Tescelin le Roux (the red-blonde) and his wife Aleth von Montbard and the sister of St. Bernard of Clairvaux , one of the greatest saints of the Cistercians . According to tradition, her brother Humbelina made a visit to choose the religious status. Only two years later, however, was she released by her husband and entered the Abbey of Jully-sur-Sarce. In 1130 she became the prioress of the monastery.
In 1703 the Cistercians were officially allowed to worship Humbelina of Jully-sur-Sarce. Their relics are still on display in Jully-sur-Sarce today. Her feast day is February 12th .
family
The holy Humbeline of Jully was probably identical with the wife of the same name of the lord of the castle Anséric II of Chacenay ( House Chacenay ). This assumption can be inferred from the documentary system of this couple, who made a donation to the Jully-sur-Sarce abbey in 1133, and two brothers of St. Bernard of Clairvaux also acted as witnesses, which implies a close relationship to them. And in 1137 the wife of Anséric II and her son Jakob von Chacenay made a donation in memory of her husband, who had died shortly before, to which St. Bernard of Clairvaux personally testified.
