Andreas Meinrad von Ow (born November 22, 1712 in Sigmaringen ; † March 1, 1792 there ; also von Aw , von Au or von Auw ) was a south German church and fresco painter of the late Baroque. He worked under Joseph Friedrich von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen as a Hohenzollern court painter.

Live and act

His stepfather and teacher was the flat and decorative painter Veser from Sigmaringen. His works can be found, for example, in the Peter and Paul Church in Benzingen .

Andreas Meinrad von Ow's places of activity were mainly sacred buildings from the Upper Swabian Baroque period. He created the paintings in the Church of St. Oswald in Otterswang , in the parish church of St. Johann Evangelist in Sigmaringen and in the Upper Swabian Premonstratensian Abbey of Rot . In 1753 he finished the fresco program begun by Johann Melchior Eggmann in the church of St. Bernhard of the Wald monastery . In Pfullendorf , the frescoes in the Maria Schray pilgrimage church and paintings in the parish church of St. Jakob are also by him. He also worked in Haigerloch in the pilgrimage church of St. Anna (frescoes and grisailles), the castle church (Renaissance altar and execution of the ceiling paintings), in the church of St. Martin Meßkirch during the Fürstenberg residence period (entire ceiling decoration) and at the Großbayerhaus in the Lower town (gable frescoes). The frescoes in the side chapels of the monastery church of the former Benedictine abbey with the late baroque minster in Zwiefalten are among his early works.

Works by him can also be found in the State Graphic Collection in Munich and the Diocesan Museum of the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese.

In Meßkirch , Bad Schussenried and Sigmaringen streets are named after him. There is a memorial plaque on the house where he was born in Sigmaringen, in the immediate vicinity of Sigmaringen Castle .
