Humber LRC Mk III

The Humber Light Reconnaissance Car was a British reconnaissance vehicle of the Second World War . The vehicle was also called "Ironside" or "Humberette". Originally the vehicles were developed as armored cars for the British royal family . The vehicle was produced by the Rootes company . Between 1940 and 1943 a total of 3,600 vehicles were built that served with the reconnaissance units of the British armored forces . The 1st Free Czechoslovak Tank Brigade was also equipped with the vehicle. After the war, the vehicle remained in service, especially with the British forces in India and the Far East .

variants

  • Mk I

The original version was still without a tower and with a 4 × 2 undercarriage. Only a few Mk I were built.

  • Mk II

The Mk II got a turret for the Bren machine gun.

  • Mk III (1941)

Built from 1941, this version now received a 4 × 4 chassis.

  • Mk IIIA (1943)

The only difference to the Mk III version was another viewing window in the front.
