The Lanchester 6 × 4 armored car , was for the British army built in 1928 armored car of the Lanchester Motor Company in Birmingham .
history
A total of thirty-nine vehicles in the series were originally produced. A later version had a higher turret and better armament . The armored car had very good terrain characteristics. Its three axles , two of which were directly driven, were outstanding. It was somewhat similar to the Rolls-Royce armored car developed in 1914 .
A special feature of the Lanchester was a steering wheel attached to the rear , with which the armored vehicle could be controlled when reversing. There were further developments of the vehicle, which were named with the suffixes Lanchester Armored Car IA, II and IIA.
The vehicle was used by the 11th Hussars (Prince Albert's Own) and the 12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's) , among others .
