history

The name of the village was interpreted as "to the houses of Hundolt". In the Middle Ages the village remained under the rule of the noble family Hund von Falkenberg from nearby Falkenstein . Later the place came into the hands of the Hochstift Würzburg . In 1721 the bishopric built a bailiwick building in Hundelshausen for the Vogtei Hundelshausen. After the abbey was dissolved, the state forestry office was established in the building. Hundelshausen only got its own cemetery in 1878.

Hundelshausen was an independent municipality in the Gerolzhofen district for a long time . On May 1, 1978, the village joined the community of Michelau in the Steigerwald in the Schweinfurt district.

Attractions

Today the center of the village is the Catholic branch church of St. Sebastian. It was built as a so-called inflation building during the German inflation in 1922 and 1923. Fritz Fuchsenberger from Munich could be won as an architect . The tower was placed on the side of the entrance facade, it ends with a flat dome with a high point. Inside the church has a valuable Madonna and Child from the late 15th century.

A wayside shrine has been preserved in front of the church, which is dated to the year 1764. The wayside shrine is made with a relief of St. Wendelin . The former bailiwick or forestry office building is an elongated saddle roof building with sandstone walls . A well and the walling of the property separate the property from the rest of the village. There is also a typical Franconian farm gate from the 18th century in Hundelshausen.
