I'll Get By (As Long as I Have You) is a pop song written by Fred E. Ahlert (music) and Roy Turk (lyrics) and released in 1928.

The Ahlert Turk ballad I'll Get By (As Long as I Have You) is written in C major in the form ABAB ' ; the long song verse moves to E major before returning back to C major. the 28-bar chorus is unusual in its length and phasing .

First recordings and later cover versions

The musicians who successfully covered the song from 1928 onwards included Nick Lucas (# 12), Ruth Etting (# 9), Aileen Stanley (# 18) and Gus Arnheim , other versions were by Irving Aaronson , Elsie Carlisle (Dominion A. 180), the Original Wolverines (Vocalion, with Frank Sylvano, vocals) and the studio formation Ipana Troubadours (Columbia, with Bing Crosby ), Lud Gluskin , Stefan Weintraub , John Morris and Red Roberts also recorded the song in Berlin . Became popular I'll Get By (As Long as I Have You) in the United States primarily through the film A Guy named Joe , where it (1943) Irene Dunne to Spencer Tracy turned sang; the following year the Harry James Orchestra (with Dick Haymes , vocals) had a number one hit with the pop song.

A trio of Dennis Day , June Haver and Gloria de Haven sang in the 1950 film of the same name (directed by Richard Sale ). Gogi Grant was vocal double for Ann Blyth in The Helen Morgan Story (1957).
