production

Shortly after touring in April 2007, the band began studio recording for I-Empire . The bassist Ryan Sinn left the band before the tour due to certain discrepancies and was then represented by Matthew Wachter , the former bassist of 30 Seconds to Mars . After the tour Wachter became a member of the band and with him the recordings began.

sale

The album sold 66,000 copies in the first week of release and 20,000 copies in the second week after release in the US and Canada . According to a contribution by Billboard on January 25, 2010, the album was sold 268,000 times in the US, and more than 500,000 times worldwide. So I-Empire did not reach the sales figures of the previous album.

Intentions

In a band biography, Tom DeLonge said: “The empire that the album title indicates is the“ inner ”empire. It's a way of looking at the world as if it were yours. "

He also expressed the following in an MTV interview: “The first album was about the idea that if you look at yourself differently in the world, you could actually change the world around you, even if not the world itself The new album is about the fact that the idea becomes reality and that this philosophical thesis takes shape, that you can actually change the world by looking at it differently ”.
